Earlier this month, Historic England published a list of the 81 projects across 78 historic sites receiving a share of the £4.5 million increase to the Heritage Stimulus Fund, from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
Among the recipients, St Mary the Virgin Church in Northill received a grant of £99,000 to fund the relaying of lead and associated timber repairs to roofs to make the building watertight.
Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:
I was delighted to see that St Mary the Virgin church in Northill has received a grant to make the building watertight.
This church dates from the 13th Century and is an important part of the history of Bedfordshire so this injection of funds is very welcome.
Money from the Heritage Stimulus Fund will keep our nationally and internationally significant heritage assets in good condition and sustain the skilled craft workforce that looks after them.
