On Monday, Heidi Alexander, Transport Secretary, updated the House on the East Midlands Railway (EMR) collision that took place on Friday 19 June, just south of Bedford. Richard's question can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/shorts/E0AKkR0Zbmk
Richard Fuller MP said:
I cannot fault the response of the Transport Secretary since the collision of two East Midland Railway trains on Friday.
Following her statement to the House of Commons yesterday and her reply to my question, I am confident that she will take the necessary steps, and implement any recommendations from the ongoing investigation, to minimise the chance of such an incident ever happening again in the future.
We hear so often that 'lessons will be learned', but never has this been more critical than in this case where we have tragically seen 1 fatality, 100 people injured with a number suffering serious injuries, and widespread disruption to one of the country's busiest train lines.
While a reduced service is in operation, including rail replacement buses between Bedford and Luton, please continue to check the National Rail website for updates before attempting to travel https://www.nationalrail.co.uk
On Wednesday, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) release an interim statement, which can be read at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/collision-between-two-passenger-trains-near-elstow
On Wednesday, Network Rail also release a video of the work being undertaken to remove the trains and repair the railway. This can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcHm5e5J5Wc
