On 8th March 2023, the #LetGirlsPlay Biggest Ever Football Session is back and Richard Fuller MP is encouraging schools in North East Bedfordshire to take part.
Richard Fuller MP said:
The aim of Let Girls Play is to get as many girls as possible to all play football on the same day in schools across the country. This could be in a lunchtime, in a lesson or after school.
Six months ago, England became European Champions for the first time in history when the Lionesses lifted the UEFA Women’s Euro trophy. Their historic victory presents a unique and welcome opportunity to inspire girls across the country to get active and take up football.
Currently, only 67% of schools in England offer football equally to girls and boys. This number drops to 41% in secondary schools. The FA has an ambition for 90% of schools to offer equal access by 2024, and has a number of exciting programmes and initiatives to try and make this a reality.
Six schools in my constituency have already signed up to take part in the session on 8th March, but it would be great if this could spread wider to engage more schools in North East Bedfordshire and provide more girls with the opportunity to play football on an equal footing with boys.
