Richard recently wrote to DEFRA Secretary, Steve Reed MP, regarding the Water Management Alliance that he established last year in conjunction with Bedford Borough Mayor, Tom Wootton and to draw his attention to a petition about the maintenance of flood prevention measures on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border which is even more acute now with potentially more house building planned in the future.
Richard Fuller MP added:
I believe the strategic approach of the Alliance, namely bringing together all relevant local and national bodies, is the best way to effectively address issues of flooding and pollution and helps to eliminate the 'buck passing' between agencies that we've seen in the past.
I also wanted to highlight a petition on an issue of major concern to residents in the Wyboston area, one of the parts of my constituency most affected by flooding. In response to the inadequate maintenance of flood defences which has contributed to the incidence and severity of flooding, the petition calls for the Environment Agency to reinstate flood prevention measures.
