Central Bedfordshire Council has been awarded £1,413,000 Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) capital funding to support charging infrastructure. This is in addition to £348,000 of LEVI capability funding that has already been approved. The is part of the government's £381 million LEVI fund for councils, which can choose where is best to install chargepoints in their local area.

This funding will help the council to significantly scale up delivery of chargepoints and help residents without off-street parking switch to electric vehicles if that’s right for them. The fund leverages private investment to significantly scale up local chargepoint deployment. In addition, the LEVI Capability Fund provides local authorities with funding for dedicated in-house expertise to deliver chargepoints.

Richard Fuller MP said:

This funding will make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles when they choose to do so. There are nearly 57,000 public charging devices available in the UK, an increase of 47% since this time last year. This puts us on track to reach 300,000 chargepoints across the country by 2030.
