Richard has welcomed the announcement this week that the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) will be holding an inquiry into Luton Airport's expansion plans, which were approved by Luton Borough Council at the end of last year
MP for North East Bedfordshire, Richard Fuller, commented:
The government is right to hold an inquiry into Luton Airport's expansion plans and to probe further the environmental and pollution impact from any such expansion.
Last year I raised concerns in a parliamentary debate and wrote to the Minister responsible for aviation about the compatibility of Luton Airport’s expansion plans with our net zero targets as well as the conflict of interest associated with Luton Borough Council as the planning authority owning the land the airport stands on and consequently benefitting from significant rental income whilst other communities affected by flight path noise, congestion and air pollution are ignored.
