Earlier this month, Richard visited St Andrew's School in Biggleswade where he met Headteacher, Sue Rolfe, and school governor, Cllr Jonathan Woodhead, to discuss the impact of Government policy on schools in the area and to meet the student council.
Richard Fuller MP said:
I was reassured to hear that the two-tier conversion in Biggleswade is going well. St Andrew's has recently welcomed its first ever cohort of Year 5s with Year 6 on the way soon too.
What was less reassuring to hear was how the school has been impacted by central government diktats like the unviable 60p school breakfast scheme and the impact of SEND under-provision on schools. These are issues that I have taken away and will be addressing on the school's behalf with the Ministers responsible.
Following the initial meeting and a tour of the site, I met with six representatives of the Student Council. Each one of them was armed with probing questions about my role as a Member of Parliament prepared by a class of children with the aim of challenging me and getting to know more about my role.
I had a great time with the students and look forward to visiting again in the future. I am sure that the six that I met have great futures ahead of them in broadcast journalism and interviewing!
I would like to thank Mrs Rolfe and Cllr Woodhead for inviting me to visit.
