Richard Fuller MP recently visited Church Farm in the village of Carlton. Speaking afterwards he said:
At Church Farm, I met with farmer, James Davis, and NFU County Advisor, Clare Gregory, along with several of James' 300 strong herd of Kiwi Cross dairy cows.
In addition to discussing the cows' daily yields, we covered a number of important topics including the implications of the Family Farm Tax, the unacceptable delays in firearms licensing where Bedfordshire is the slowest of all police forces, water management and the role of farmers in helping to clean up our rivers. We also discussed the threat that Tempsford new town will bring to agricultural land through the use of Compulsory Purchase Orders.
In the Autumn Budget 2024, the Government announced reforms to agricultural property relief (APR) from inheritance tax, which introduces an inheritance tax liability on any farm valued at over £1 million, set to take effect in April 2026. Richard has previously said this tax is badly thought through, threatens to reduce our food security, put farmers out of business, and end up raising no extra tax at all.
