A recent visit to Biggleswade Academy was prompted by concerns raised by School Governors and the Principal, Mark Steer, about the pace and delivery of construction projects and the impact that delays may have.

Following his visit, Richard Fuller MP said:

The school is on a magnificent site and one well suited to serving the continuing growth in population of Biggleswade. The transition from three tier to two tier had been meticulously planned by the school leadership and, although the effects will take some years to work through, school pupils will continue to get excellent education at all times.

Given the efforts the school has taken to plan ahead, it was disappointing to hear of the delays over the Summer on the construction projects and to see some of the impacts. None of these are insurmountable - as the “Yellow Brick Road” temporary entry way demonstrates – but they are far from ideal.

Following my visit I have written to the Chief Executive of Central Bedfordshire Council to ask if he can take personal oversight to ensure projects are completed safely and as quickly as possible. I understand he is visiting the school which is a very positive sign.

Finally, many thanks to student, Emma, who was learning about voting and demonstrating an early commitment to the democratic process!
