This week, Richard took part in a debate in Westminster Hall on Covid-19 support schemes for ineligible people.
Richard has raised this before and in this debate urged Treasury ministers to look again at ways to support small businesses owners who will be critical to helping our economic recovery.
In the debate, Richard spoke about supporting risk-taking company directors and outlined to the Minister three critical parameters for a support scheme to work: finding a standard reporting event; ensuring that people can demonstrate a negative impact on their business and confirming they have not received any benefit from Government under any existing schemes. He urged the Minister to help these entrepreneurs on whom the country will rely on as the country emerges from the recession.
Speaking after the debate, Richard said: "I only had two minutes to speak in the debate and I decided to use this time to outline what I believe are the three critical criteria upon which a scheme of support can rest. It is important that we focus on the future and the important role in our recovery that the spirit of entrepreneurs and small business owners will play. We must not lose that."
