This week in Parliament, the House of Commons held a debate on the Motion to approve the Police Grant Report (England and Wales) 2023/24. This is how Parliament approves the central police funding allocation for each force every financial year.
Contributing to the debate, Richard Fuller MP said:
This week, Parliament voted through increases in the police grant which will bring additional resources to policing in Bedfordshire.
As noted in the debate, there are now a record number of police officers in Bedfordshire with more due to start later this year.
This annual debate on police funding draws together Bedfordshire MPs from both the main parties to make the case for our local police force. Again this year, it was Bedfordshire MPs – Andrew Selous MP, Rachel Hopkins MP and myself – who spoke up and, as I noted in my contribution to the debate, this was the most MPs from any police force area. We do this because we value and honour the work of our local police officers and want to get them – and therefore our residents – the best possible financial settlement, to help continue the progress in crime reduction and to increase police presence particularly in our rural areas.
