On Tuesday, Richard Fuller MP took part in a Westminster Hall debate secured by his fellow Bedfordshire MP, Andrew Selous, on General Practice capacity for large-scale housing developments.
Speaking after the debate, Richard said:
The topic of the debate was particularly relevant to my constituency as North East Bedfordshire has seen housing growth at 5 times the national average, putting great strain on the capacity, not only of GP practices, but also on access to school places and other services.
I recognise the frustrations that many of my constituents have in accessing GP appointments, however, I argued that the answer is not always more people and more resources but also greater efficiencies, more effective use of technologies like the NHS App, and more avenues for patients to access the services they require.
While praising the Minister for recently 'killing' the 1 million housing target promoted by Lord Adonis in his OxCam Arc plan, I also called on him to place a cap on absolute numbers of new homes in the OxCam corridor so that unreasonable targets cannot be imposed on Councils in the future.
