Pubs Letter

Richard has signed a letter calling on the Chancellor to consider a cut to duty on draught beer and cider.

Following the restrictions introduced as a result of coronavirus, many pubs and clubs are struggling to survive and will be unable to reopen once restrictions are lifted. Richard along with 75 other Conservative MPs, has written to the Chancellor requesting a specific Draught Beer Duty highlighting the important social as well as economic contribution pubs make to communities across the country.

A cut in draught beer duty would ensure support for 'wet led pubs' who have not benefitted from VAT cuts but have all the additional costs of Covid. A specific Draught Beer Duty would be a ‘huge boost’ to the industry as 98% of draught beer drunk in the UK is brewed in the UK.

Commenting, Richard Fuller, Member of Parliament for North East Bedfordshire and member of the Business Select Committee said:

I was pleased to sign this letter. The hospitality sector has been hit very hard by the pandemic and the pre-pandemic level of beer duty was already too high.

Now is the time to resolve this. By cutting beer duty we will be supporting our pubs to recover, which are often at the heart of our local communities.
