As the Member of Parliament for North East Bedfordshire, Richard recently wrote to the Secretary of State for Transport regarding the East West Rail project and specifically the section proposed to run through North East Bedfordshire after EWR was listed in the Government's Growth Plan 2022 as one of the infrastructure projects to be accelerated.
The letter, which can be read here, requested that no formal decision be taken prior to a full public review of the business case

Many constituents contacted me to express surprise at seeing EWR listed in the Government's Growth Plan 2022 as one of the infrastructure projects to be accelerated given the absence of any credible economic case review and the ongoing questions surrounding the inadequacies of the consultation process.
The issues of economic viability, environmental concerns and local community engagement all still remain which is why I have requested that no formal decision be taken prior to a full public review of the business case.
