Richard has again written to Bedford Hospital about accessing blood test appointments in Bedford. For many years the booking system for blood tests in Bedford has worked well but the service appears to have suffered a marked deterioration in recent months.

Richard Fuller MP said:

A number of constituents have contacted me to raise their concerns about the problems they have experienced both online and in their attempts to get through to the phlebotomy department by telephone.

I raised this issue twice at the end of last year and was given assurances that the number of phlebotomists was being increased and that a telephonist was being recruited, but the situation does not seem to have improved.

This week I wrote to David Carter, Chief Executive at Bedford Hospital, to ask for an explanation into what has gone wrong with the system, what changes have been made and why, and what plans the Trust has to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

As I state in my letter, I will be sharing the response as soon as I receive it.

The letter can be read here.
