In early December Richard attended a Westminster Hall Debate in Parliament on the "Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor". A significant part of the debate centred on East West Rail, and Richard highlighted the project’s substantial losses and questioned whether it represents good value for taxpayers.
Richard Fuller MP said:
East West Rail loses significant sums of taxpayers’ money. The route East West Rail chose is the most hilly and environmentally damaging.
In coming years Bedfordshire will face considerable demands on transport infrastructure given the ongoing work at Black Cat roundabout, the proposed new town at Tempsford, Universal Studios Theme Park, Luton Airport expansion and the East West Rail project.
Central government needs to acknowledge and plan for these multiple events to ensure that local councils aren't overwhelmed and receive the support that they will need.
