Earlier this month, Richard hosted his latest Farmers' Forum, facilitated by the NFU at their offices in Stagsden.
Commenting, Richard Fuller MP said:
Many thanks to NFU County Advisor Emily Brown for helping to organise and also promote the event among members.
We had a very wide ranging discussion covering the transition from EU direct payments to the UK-specific Environmental Land Management schemes, the profitability of food production impacted by rising input costs, the reduced availability of certain key plant protection products (PPPs) and the problems associated with diversification due to an unacceptably long planning process.
I am grateful to both the Mayor, Tom Wootton, and the Police and Crime Commissioner, Festus Akinbusoye, for giving up their time to attend the meeting and provide feedback on areas including Bedford Borough planning department, fly tipping and rural crime resourcing.
These events are always extremely useful to give Richard feedback on the key issues facing the agricultural sector as well as an understanding of further steps that he can take to further support the rural economy in his constituency.
