Both Central Bedfordshire Council and the national government are holding consultations on SEND provision

The government is seeking views on its green paper about the changes it wants to make to the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision (AP) system in England. The green paper sets out the government's vision for a single, national SEND and alternative provision (AP) system that will introduce new standards in the quality of support given to children across education, health and care and  is the result of the SEND Review, commissioned to improve an inconsistent, process-heavy and increasingly adversarial system that too often leaves parents facing difficulties and delays accessing the right support for their child.

This consultation closes on the 1 July 2022 and you can take part by visiting this page.

Along with the clinical commissioning group (CCG) for Bedfordshire, Central Bedfordshire Council is also asking for views on its new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Strategy for 2022 to 2025, to improve the service for children and young people with SEND in Central Bedfordshire. The consultation, which runs until Wednesday 22 June 2022, sets out their plans for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND. To have your say on this strategy, please visit this page.

Commenting, Richard Fuller MP said:

My recent visit to Ivel Valley School in Biggleswade highlighted the case for a significant upgrade in SEND school facilities.

I therefore welcome the SEND review and green paper by the Government and am also pleased to see Central Bedfordshire Council launching a consultation into SEND provision in the area. I would encourage constituents to take part in both consultations.

You can access the full government SEND review here and Central Bedfordshire's SEND strategy here.
