Last week, Richard attended the British In Vitro Diagnostics Association's (BIVDA) recent event in Parliament to discuss the vital role of diagnostics in strengthening local health services.
Richard Fuller MP said:
At the event, I had the opportunity to speak with Dr Jayne Ellis from BIVDA about how improved access to community diagnostic testing can support initiatives like Pharmacy First, helping to ease pressure on GPs and hospitals while ensuring patients get the right care at the right time.
Diagnostics play a crucial role in both early detection and treatment of diseases, and is invaluable to improve health outcomes across the UK. My thanks to BIVDA for their important work in this area.
The event highlighted the value of community diagnostics and the case for improving access to rapid, point of care in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) in community and primary care settings. This includes the role of community diagnostics in addressing growing pressures on the NHS, arising from urinary tract infections (UTIs) and respiratory tract infections (RTIs), and the threat that antimicrobial prescribing associated with these conditions poses in relation to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
