On Wednesday, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) confirmed unemployment has risen to a five-year high, with youth unemployment the highest in Europe, and GDP per capita falling.
Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Richard fuller MP commented:
The latest figures show unemployment rising to its highest level in five years, a stark reminder of the impact that everyone with a modicum of common sense knew would happen as a result of Labour’s disastrous budgets and employment legislation.
Who could possibly have imagined that heaping huge additional costs and reams of extra red tape on businesses would not cause them to pause investment and think twice before expanding or taking on new employees?
We are not even two years into this Starmer/Reeves Double Act of Doom. I dread to think how many more people will lose their jobs and be consigned to welfare if the Government continues along this deeply destructive trajectory.
