This week, Richard attended the parliamentary launch of the World Watch List 2026. The annual report by Open Doors lists and ranks countries where Christians face the most severe persecution and discrimination for their faith. Data shows 388 million Christians worldwide were exposed to persecution, which rose 8 million compared to the year before. Among them, 201 million were women or girls and 110 million children and young people.
Richard Fuller MP said:
Regular followers will know how much I value the work of Open Doors in tracking and quantifying the persecution of Christians across the globe.
Each year, their World Watch List draws attention to those countries where religious tolerance is growing and those where it is getting more restrictive.
I try, and usually do, attend their Parliamentary launch each year but to be honest it’s been a pretty sad set of trends in recent years and it was again this year.
We should be proud of our country’s hard won, but now long standing, heritage as a nation of religious tolerance.
In our Christian country we have given respect to people of other faiths and of none.
In a divisive world, we should hold fast to this British tradition of tolerance and recognise how lucky and how special we are.
