In December, Richard attended ceremony to mark the formal start of works on the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement scheme with Bedford Mayor Tom Wootton and Nicola Bell, Chris Taylor and Lee Galloway of National Highways.

Expected to be open to traffic in 2027, this major development of the roundabout with a new 10-mile dual carriageway and a number of junction improvements will finally put to an end the interminable traffic jams that are such a feature of Black Cat at present.
