Richard asks Treasury to remove duties on renewable fuels for domestic heating

Richard's letter to Treasury on renewable fuel duties

Richard has written to the Financial Secretary to the Treasury about the removal of duties on renewable fuel oil for domestic heating. The letter can be read here.

Richard Fuller MP said:

Last year I visited Barton Petroleum in Oakley and learned of the benefits of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) which is made from 100% renewable raw materials, produces 90% lower CO2 emissions than fossil fuels and can be used as a direct substitute for diesel and other oil derivatives.

In my letter to Treasury Minister, Nigel Huddleston MP, I highlighted that kerosene is zero rated for duty, whereas HVO, which can be readily substituted for Kerosene in home heating would attract a duty of 10.18 pence per litre. As such, those off-grid residents wishing to switch to a far more eco-friendly heating fuel would be financially penalised.

I called for the government to review, and ideally remove, the duty on renewable fuel oil for home heating.

Last year, Richard has been campaigning to ensure that the government introduces changes to make renewable liquid heating fuel a more viable source of heating for people whose homes are not connected to the gas energy grid. More information can be read here.
