During Treasury Questions in the House of Commons last week, Richard asked for answers for the one in seven hospitality businesses facing closure directly because of the policies introduced by Rachel Reeves and the Labour government.
Richard Fuller, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said:
A recent survey by UK Hospitality shows that one in seven hotels, pubs and restaurants will close as a direct result of the Chancellor’s policies.
Many of those businesses represent the hopes and dreams, hard work and savings of the people who set them up. I asked the Chancellor to come to the Despatch Box, instead of the Minister, to answer to those people who had founded a business and are now going through the gut-wrenching process of closing it because of her policies. The Chancellor didn't take up my invitation, What followed instead were the same lame excuses and plenty of spin from the Minister that seemed to suggest the economy is doing brilliantly.
If things really are that rosy, it shouldn’t be so hard to answer a simple question.
