proportion of workers on low pay has halved since Living Wage was introduced

New jobs figures from the ONS releases this month, showed that the proportion of workers on low pay has halved since this government introduced the National Living Wage, showing the progress that has been made in giving people the opportunity to access better paid jobs.

Commenting, Richard Fuller MP said:

New statistics show that the proportion of people on lowest pay has fallen from one in five to one in ten since 2015. This is a huge step forward in demonstrating that work pays and that, whatever work you do, you deserve the dignity of a proper wage to look after you and your family. Of course there is further to go and I do not doubt that many families are struggling with the impact of rising prices.

But the Conservative policy of a National Living Wage and the the willingness of successive Conservative governments from David Cameron to Rishi Sunak to intervene to raise low pay demonstrates that long term thinking can bring about lasting change.
