Richard recently met with both Anglian Water and Bedford Borough Council to discuss nitrate levels in our river.
Richard Fuller MP said:
The River Great Ouse is increasingly vulnerable to high nitrate levels. While some nitrates occur naturally, many enter the river through agricultural fertiliser runoff and wastewater or sewage treatment processes.
These rising nitrate levels don’t just affect water quality, they also threaten our ability to refill the Grafham Water reservoir, which is vital for our region’s water supply.
We’re also seeing greater seasonal swings in nitrate levels than before, which is a growing concern.
I hope and expect that the North Bedfordshire Water Management Partnership will continue monitoring this closely and work with partners to protect the health of the River Great Ouse.
