Central Bedfordshire Council is one of 48 individual local authorities set to receive £238,000 in funding as part of a £14miliion fund to lead the preparation of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Bedfordshire.
The government has made legally-binding commitments to end nature declines and for nature to recover and this funding is part of that recovery.
Each local nature recovery strategy will agree priorities for nature recovery and propose actions in the locations where it would make a particular contribution to achieving those priorities. Together these 48 strategy areas cover the whole of England with no gaps or overlaps.
Responsible authorities, including Central Bedfordshire Council, will work with other organisations and partners in their area, such as farmer and school children to agree what should be included in their local nature recovery strategy. They will identify practical, achievable proposals developed with the input of people who know and understand the area. This approach is essential if the proposed actions are to be taken.
Richard Fuller MP said:
This is an important milestone in the delivery of the commitments made in the Environmental Improvement Plan which sets out how the government will continue to help nature to recover and thrive.
Local nature recovery strategies will help communities map out the action needed in their area to restore nature and enhance wildlife habitats.
