MIP Diagnostics

Last week, Richard met virtually with the team at MIP Diagnostics, based at Colworth Park in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire. The company is a technology leader in the field of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs). These are synthetic, laboratory-produced versions of the natural antibodies that our bodies produce to fight the antigens caused by infections and diseases. When integrated into diagnostic devices such as sensors, these MIPs play a key role in diagnostic testing and treatments. One highly topical application is in COVID testing, where MIPs developed by MIP Diagnostics are being used in coronavirus rapid reaction tests.

Speaking after the meeting, Richard Fuller, Member of Parliament for North East Bedfordshire and a member of the Business Select Committee said:

I had a very informative meeting with the team at MIP Diagnostics at Colworth Park in Sharnbrook and learned about their impressive Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) which, amongst other applications, are being used to assist with coronavirus rapid reaction tests.

It is so encouraging to meet another highly entrepreneurial and leading edge business based in North East Bedfordshire making important contributions to the UK’s science and technology sector.

Colworth Park is home to a number of highly entrepreneurial and leading edge businesses, particularly in the area of science and technology. The UK is rightly hailed as one of the leading countries in this field (ranked no.4 in the Global Innovation Index), and the nurturing and development of the sector is a key component of the government's Global Britain outlook as highlighted by the Prime Minister in the Integrated Review published last week.
