Following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East, Richard Fuller MP issued the following statement:
A Prime Minister of the United Kingdom who outsources judgements on our national interests to an abstract interpretation of international law, rather than a common sense understanding of our national interests is a lost soul who should not remain in place.
There are important questions to be answered about the reasons for the timing and targeting of this military action against the Iranian regime but surely not one of principle?
The hand wringing of the Prime Minister and the leader of the Liberal Democrats are effectively the same as the Green Party’s position that the Iranian regime should be allowed to carry on their repression without consequence.
In a more dangerous world we need a more clear sighted policy that defends on our national interests, supports our allies and defends liberal values.
Sadly this bungling Prime Minister and his disastrous government lack any sense of the dangers we face.
The Chancellor should have also used her Spring Statement on Tuesday to deliver a concrete plan to spending 3 per cent of GDP on defence but instead she gave more money to welfare.
