This week marks an historic milestone for Bedfordshire as the Universal United Kingdom Resort was officially launched. The park is expected to open in 2031.
Comcast NBCUniversal has committed to invest over £5bn in the entertainment resort complex during the expected 5 years of construction, as well as an additional £1bn in capital investment over the first 10 years of operation. The Government announced it will support the project with an investment of £1.3bn on regional and local community infrastructure to ensure the park can operate successfully, with improved transport links for local residents and visitors from across the UK and abroad.
Richard Fuller, MP for North Bedfordshire, commented:
This is a once-in-a-generation investment in our area, bringing thousands of jobs for local people and putting our county firmly on the global map.
I have long supported this project and worked with partners to help make it happen. While there is still much to do to ensure local infrastructure, transport and community needs are properly delivered, today is a moment to celebrate.
This resort will bring lasting economic benefits to North Bedfordshire and beyond and I will continue working to ensure our residents see those benefits in full.
A very exciting day for our community.
