The flags of 52 historic counties are flying proudly in Parliament Square this week to mark Historic County Flag Day on Friday 23 July. The flag of Bedfordshire is among the 52 flags flying.
Historic County Flags Day provides the opportunity to raise the 52 flags of Great Britain as registered by the Flag Institute and serves as a reminder of our rich history, allowing us to celebrate the traditions that bind our communities together and instil pride in the places we live. There are 39 in England, 6 in Scotland and 7 in Wales; there are no registered or widely recognised county flags for Northern Ireland so the Union flag is flying at the head of the display so that all parts of the United Kingdom are represented.
