Last week was Flood Action Week, a joint initiative by the Department for Environment, Flood and Rural Affairs, the Environment Agency and industry to ensure people know about their flood risk, how to protect themselves from flooding and what to do in a flood. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has also reissued their Responding to Floods: What You Need to Know Guide.

Richard Fuller MP said:

Whilst we all fervently hope that we will have a dry and flood-free winter, this guide, developed alongside the National Flood Forum, sets out their best practice advice on what customers can expect from their insurance company in the event of a flood and how to manage a flood claim.

The ABI have worked alongside the government to design, develop and implement Flood Re. Flood Re is a world first insurance scheme that has not only provided property owners in at-risk areas with affordable flood cover but created a competitive market for high flood risk homes, allowing consumers to shop around to find the most appropriate cover for them.

There is more information on flooding and insurance on the ABI’s website here.

And you can read the ABI guide here.
